Post subject:  Audio Issues

Hi I'm new to the forum. I discovered the channel by chance. My reception of Star Ray channel (video portion ) is terrific, unfortunately I can't get the audio part. Does anyone know what the problem is? I'm using an analog tv with an hd television converter with an external 4 bay hd antenna mounted on a tower with a rotor. Thanks

There appears to be an issue that we haven't been able to identify with certain ATSC converter boxes. We have a couple of Electronic Master converters and the audio works no problem. The audio issue is not widespread. We've only had four people complain they can't receive our audio out of the thousands that watch the station. Could you possibly bring your converter box to the station so we can see what it's doing?

We did have a viewer show up with a converter box. There was no audio on Star Ray plus there were other less noticable audio problems with other stations: stuttering and dropouts, low audio level, and hum. It was an Access HD model converter. A quick search on the Internet shows a large amount of complaints for Access brand ATSC converters. Unforunately there are a lot of these around since the US government supposedly purchased 400 million? of these Access HD models 1010 through 1080 from a company in China for about $ 2.85 USD per box.

I gave the viewer an Electronic Master converter we got back from a warranty repair.

Thanks again Jan for solving the audio issue. The converter works fine. You mentionned on Saturday that the remote control unit from the dollar store would work with the Electronic Master dtv-2500. Are you referring to the Rca universal remote control unit from "Dollarama" ? I checked out the unit and on the back of the package it lists all of the companies (brands) that it works with, Electronic Master is NOT listed, although Channel Master is. I was told that to use these universal remotes you have to get the code from the manufacturer. Anyone else have these issues? Please post your solution.

If you read the instructions on the RCA universal remote from Dollarama there is a way of making it work without knowing the manufacturer's code. As soon as the weather warms up I will go to the wholesaler to buy some converters and remotes. If you have not figured it out by then, you can have an original remote.

We are planning to give special prices on Electronic Master converters to anyone that brings in a problem converter.

Post subject:  Problem Converters

Our broadcast encoder manufacturer is willing to test in their lab converters that have audio problems when receiving Star Ray TV. I will trade one new Electronic Master ATSC converter for a converter that has problems receiving Star Ray audio.

Hello. I live quite close to you (Danforth & Dawes). I must say that the upgrade to digital is great. I like your programming too.

My problem is that while I get great video, there is absolutely no audio. Any fixes you can think of ??

Hi Paul,

Please read the above info. We are actively working with the encoder manufacturer to solve the problem.

hello and thank you for maintaining this station, I discovered it this past christmas
having grown to despise rogers I built my own antenna from wire coat hangers :D
mounted on the roof of my house near lakeshore and carlaw with co-ax connection
the reception is better and the content satisfactory :o
I am a local historian and love your street car memories program, art stuff and movies
alas I too am plagued by audio problem :?
I had a big old analog electahome tv with good stereo sound
got a homeworx dac when the digital came in, worked fine for awhile,
the sound on some of your shows came thru, others not :(
then the dac died and I traded it for another, it too failed soon after
I went out and bought a new 19" rca tv with very tinny sound,
it too does not get sound from your broadcasts
what can this be?
