You need a High speed connection that has at least 2M download and 800K upload in bandwidth to watch Star Ray TV''s video stream. TVants is a shared system; your computer has to upload the stream to the next user. Users with bandwidth problems can create a 'black hole." We reserve the right to disconnect and ban anyone that is affecting the stability of our TVants server.

The embedded video on tobroadcast.com uses a signed ActiveX plug-in called the "TVants ActiveX Control 1.0" which is downloaded from our server. McAfee's SiteAdvisor gives Star Ray TV's tobroadcast.com downloads a "Nuisance Score" of 0: http://www.siteadvisor.com/sites/tobroadcast.com This means our downloads are free of adware, spyware and other unwanted programs.

The plug-in uses Windows Media Player to run the stream. You need to have preinstalled Windows Media Player 7.1 or higher. You can download Windows Media Player from here: http://www.microsoft.com/windows/window ... loads.aspx

The plug-in works well in Windows Internet Explorer 6, 7, and 8. You may see a yellow bar at the top of the page asking to enable the plug-in. You may get a request from your firewall to unblock the TVants plug-in. You may also get a prompt to download a codec from Microsoft. This is a legit download and not a virus. We use Microsoft’s advanced VC-1 video codec for the video picture.

ActiveX does not work in Firefox, the on-demand videos will play with a Windows Media plug-in. ActiveX works in the new Google Chrome browser if you enable it. The ActiveX plug-in also might work on old Internet Explorer versions for Mac.

You do not need a browser to watch Star Ray on the Internet. You can use the program version of TVants. Go to the forum topic: “Star Ray TV now has a TVants server!” for more information. The program version has the added benefit of several Internet channels that you can watch. I personally prefer the program version of TVants because it does all the installing in the background, I don't have to worry about the browser, and I can watch other channels.
